Unravel the Legend of Ponte Drago – New Release – Dragon Bridge – by E.D. Parr @parr_books #fantasy #mmromance

Please welcome back the fab E.D. Parr to the blog with a teaser from brand new release Dragon Bridge. If you’re a regular to the blog you know I’m a huge fan of E.D. Parr’s work. I’ve already read and thoroughly enjoyed Dragon Bridge, and I have to say, I think this is my favorite Parr story to date. The legend of Ponte Drago intertwined with the romance all within a stunning Italian setting—the authors descriptors so on point, you’ll feel as if you are sitting in an Italian piazza with the handsome Key Alder. You’ll fall in love with Key, Claudio and Italy. Take it away, E.D.!

Thank you for inviting me to your blog with my new release MM romance release, Dragon Bridge, from Evernight Publishing

I first started thinking about this story around two years ago when I saw a shadow across the full moon that looked like a dragon. It was a dark gray cloud, but it captured my imagination and for a year, I considered a plot that might work that sight into a story and so the legend of Ponte Drago, (Dragon Bridge) was born.

It still took me a year to write Dragon Bridge, weaving my legend through the love story to provide the background for characters.

I researched Italy, where the bulk of the story takes place, a little, just enough to imagine places that might exist, but not enough to describe existing towns as I wrote that might take away from the mysterious element I wanted in the story. I’d love to visit Italy for the art that exists there … maybe one day.

My lovely hero Key Alder is an ordinary guy, worn down by life as many people are. Naturally, I’m in love with him, as I am with all my characters. We meet him when he’s struggling emotionally with his work. His journey through this love story allows him to find his lost confidence and in the end, huge courage.

Claudio Di Fiore, my other hero, as Key Alder puts it, is gorgeous and enigmatic. I think, right now, he is one of my favorite characters from any of my MM romance stories. His love for Key is steadfast and fierce. He’s fearless until he falls in love with Key and then Claudio’s only fear is losing him.

The story is contemporary, gay, MM romance, fantasy, adventure, and paranormal romance.

I hope readers enjoy the legend and the love story as much as I loved writing it.

Blurb

Tired from his high stress work fighting cyber-crime, handsome, Key Alder takes a vacation on a beautiful Italian coast. He travels from one gorgeous town to another and after a perilous journey lost in the mountains, he settles into his hotel and relaxes.

In a beachside café, next to a warm pale-blue ocean, a performer hands out fliers for an arts festival in a mountain village. Lured by adventure, Key attends an evening performance of fire juggling acrobats in the legendary village piazza.

Beautiful, enigmatic Claudio Di Fiore, the star of the show, sees Key in the audience and is captured by a wonderful feeling he’s unaccustomed to.

Claudio wants Key.

Key is enchanted by Claudio.

A passionate love grows between the two men.

When Claudio’s mysterious ancient family threaten to tear them apart, will Key risk everything to stay with his loved one?

Read a teaser. Key arrives at his first vacation destination.

As he turned a corner of the high coast road, Key caught his breath as his destination came into sight. The entire hillside of a gorgeous bay housed buildings interspersed with trees and flowering shrubs. Several rooftops sprouted palms in huge pots or tubs of bright flowers. Each building climbed the sheer hillside effortlessly from a beach of white sand toward a wall of crags enclosing the bay. The sun slanted off a jade colored dome and sprinkled glitter on primary colored buildings close by. Key slowed to enter the town, already well below the speed limit in awe of the view, he crawled the car to his hotel. Key had spent hours on the internet making sure he knew where it lay. His newfound fragile lightheartedness wouldn’t stand going around in circles until he was exhausted trying to find the place.

A valet took his car keys to park his rental. A porter picked up his luggage and led him to check in. Relieved by these ministrations, Key smiled at the desk clerk. He gave his name. The young woman on duty returned his smile and keyed something into a computer, then she stood and took a keycard from one of the small rectangular openings in the wall behind the desk. Her near perfect English as she spoke to him was reassuring, but Key decided right then that he’d try to learn some Italian. Then I could at least greet people and say thank you.

Author Interview & New Release – Night Song – by E.D. Parr @parr_books #mmromance #HolidayRomance

Night Song

by

E. D. Parr

Words 26,415

MM romance, gay seasonal romance

Released from Evernight Publishing December 8, 2020

Twenty-five year old Oliver Honeycutt has no idea how handsome he is. He’s creative, brilliant at his job, and underused in the designer fashion store where he works. Behind the scenes, Oliver takes special care with orders for customer, rock star, Zane Highwood. When Zane is to be the main attraction in the store’s Christmas party, fashion show, Oliver hopes Zane will notice him.

Multi-millionaire, twenty-five year old, Noah Somersby, made his first million before he was twenty-one and now owns a number of casual-chic menswear stores. He’s a designer, gorgeous, and desperate to find a man who will love him for himself and not see dollar signs as they kiss.

Noah doesn’t often take the train into the city, but one rainy day he does, as he settles into a seat opposite Oliver, the two men exchange interested glances.

In fact, Noah is super attracted to Oliver and Oliver thinks Noah is gorgeous.

As the store holiday season party approaches, can serendipity bring them together?

Read a story teaser

Noah Somersby took a late train to the city. He regretted it because it meant he wouldn’t see the hot guy who often ate a pastry and always drank coffee as he traveled on the early express. Detained at home by a phone call from one of his stores in another state, Noah addressed the problems reported to him before he left to visit the store on Main Street. Noah owned two stores in the city, and the Main Street branch was currently hosting a charity event. He stared out the train window at the downpour and sighed. Noah favored white Christmases, and this year would definitely not be one. The forecast for the weeks ahead was for rain, wind, and fog—thoroughly depressing.

Noah’s thoughts wandered back to the handsome man who’d caught his attention a few times. He’d given the guy his best, “Hi, I’m gay. I’m interested,” look, but there’d been no answering stare. Instead, the man had quickly looked away on two occasions, causing Noah to question if he’d misread an early interested glance his fellow traveler gave him.

Noah sighed. He hadn’t met anyone who stirred his heart for over a year. The last two dates he went on ended badly with both he and the guy he’d gone out with deciding they weren’t really into each other. Noah wasn’t a one-night stand person. He loved sex, but he wanted to feel a connection with a man before they engaged. Just the sight of the handsome man who rode the early express train did something to his heartbeat. Noah decided that the next time they were in the same car he’d talk to the guy.

He joined the rest of the late commuters exiting the train onto the wet streets and strode to his store. Noah had built his menswear empire with casual-chic fashion and made a million before he was twenty-one. Now, four years later, he designed most of the collections, although recently he’d employed two newly graduated designers to take some of the load.

Noah dashed up the back stairs, leaping the double banister and landing on the next flight to the second-floor office. He dragged off his wet coat, smiling to himself at his short indulgence in parkour. I kinda miss running and leaping through the city… He’d forgone an umbrella that morning and his hair dripped with rain. He unwound his scarf and draped it over the back of a spare chair near the radiator. He hung his overcoat across three hooks on the wall coat rack and stared at it, willing it not to fall off and to dry quickly.

Noah went into the private restroom attached to his office and grabbed a number of paper towels from the dispenser near the sink. He blotted the water from his hair and then pushed it away from his forehead. Noah washed his hands, then aimed the towels at the recycle bin as he went out the door.

Author Interview

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

I write stories that pop into my head and hope that they will resonate with someone. I’d love to think that the love stories I write are what readers want. I don’t think there’s enough love in the world, but even so, my stories are character driven. I always have a happy ending. We all deserve one.

I like to think there’s originality in my work. When I look at the body of my work I see originality within the story plots, but the theme of finding love is always there.

Do you plan all your characters out before you start a story or do they develop as you write?

I never plan my characters, but they’re there before I start the story. Somehow, I just know them. I generally love them, even if one or two of them are flawed. I think that’s a realistic portrayal of people. Who’s perfect after all and as long as they redeem themselves a little that works for me. They do develop but never stray from their initial imprint in my imagination.

What would you like readers to enjoy most about Night Song?

Well the heroes as characters, of course, the love scenes, and the way Noah persists in seeking out Oliver, but I’d love readers to enjoy the humor in the story, and the camaraderie between Oliver and his co-worker, Eddie. That’s where lots of the humor lies.

What are your upcoming projects?

I have an MM romance Sci-Fi releasing from Evernight Publishing January 21, 2021. It’s titled, Love in Danger.

The story is a gay romantic horror, heavy on the romance/love story between the two main characters to offset some of the Sci-Fi horror elements. I loved writing this story because for once, the lovers had already met and we meet them together as partners. I usually write stories that have the characters meeting and falling in love s this was a refreshing change for me as a writer.

Here’s the blurb for Love in Danger

Centuries ago, the planet they cherished was conquered, but now three warriors from an ancient race of gifted beings intend to remedy that.

Lovers, handsome Corin JaKobi and gorgeous Marcus D’Ath are members of an elite planetary squad that rid the city sectors of the mysterious and dangerous Fallen.

When an old friend uncovers the true horrific nature of the elders in the organization they work for, anger at their duplicity drives Corin, Marcus, and rogue squadron hunter, Zeb to plan for the ruling group’s demise.

It won’t be easy, and when Marcus is captured and detained at the elders’ pleasure, Corin’s white-hot fury at the thought of losing the man he loves knows no bounds.

Will Corin get to his beloved, Marcus, in time to stop the horror that awaits him?

Can the warriors free the planet and return it to the lovely place it was before the aggressors arrived?

Excerpt:

Julie was very proud of herself for waiting until seven the next morning before she climbed the trellis to Heidi’s bedroom window and snuck in just like she’d done a million times since they were children—well, maybe not exactly the same. This time, she had the forethought to listen at the window to make sure all occupants were still sleeping. The last thing she needed was to interrupt her bestie getting ‘serviced’ by her new beaus. But given the fact that the current bane of her existence was most likely sleeping in a room down the hall, she simply couldn’t risk the front door.

She had just eased the window shut and turned around to a rather large mound of bodies in Heidi’s double bed, thankfully still covered by a quilt. Her legs were bent, preparing to launch as a devious smile crept over her lips…

“Wak—ahh!” She squeaked and jumped back as a low growl split the previous silence and two sets of golden feline eyes popped open in the dim light of dawn.

“No, Julie,” Mason growled. “No eggs and no damned bakey! We’re taking back that spare key unless you agree to never come through our door before 8:00 AM again.”

“She came in through the window,” Wade muttered before pulling a pillow over his head.

“What’s happening?” Heidi groaned before her eyes opened slowly. “Hey, babe, what’s going on? Why do you look like hammered shit?”

“No.” Mason placed a huge paw over Heidi’s face, and Julie struggled not to laugh, as her twenty minutes of sleep last night threatened to snap her mind. “You can have a key to our new place if you agree not to barge into our bedroom at ungodly times in the morning.”

“Okay … unless it’s an emergency.” She reluctantly agreed with the giant, naked tiger in her best friend’s bed.

“Great, now can I please get back to cuddling my mate—”

“It’s an emergency!” Her voice bellowed to the ceiling as she interrupted him, causing giggles to erupt from Heidi and curses from the men on each side of her.

You are an emergency.” Mason groaned and followed Wade’s lead to pull a pillow over his head as Heidi tried to climb out from in between the two of them.

“Awww, you’re so sweet, thank you.” She knew he hadn’t meant it as a compliment, but she was a wolf and was therefore genetically predisposed to only hear things she wanted to.

“Is there a reason you’re using the window instead of the door?” Heidi asked as she pulled on a robe. “Oh Goddess, did Derek get drunk and pass out in his lion form on the porch again?”

“No…”

Wow, this confession was going to be tougher than she thought it would be. Julie didn’t think Heidi would be mad that Hector was her mate, but there was a very good chance that she was going to be furious that Julie had known all these years and didn’t say a Goddess-damned thing about it to her best friend in the entire world.

There was really only one way to deal with this, Julie knew that. So, she’d do what she’d always done when it came to delivering bad news to a lion shifter female—she’d Band-Aid that bitch off quickly and then dive for cover.

“I’ve known for the last six years that your asshole brother, Hector, is my mate, but he pretended like it wasn’t happening and he obviously doesn’t want me, so I don’t want him either and last night he lost his mind and said it out loud in front of your brothers and your dad and now I don’t know what’s going to happen!”

It all came out in one overly loud, long, run-on sentence and when it was done, Julie covered her face with her hands and waited for the worst.

Huh. I wasn’t expecting the worst to be a bunch of heavy breathing…

She moved two fingers aside so she could see what was happening, and in case Heidi tried to maul her, she would still only lose one eye. To her surprise, Heidi, as well as both of her mates were just staring at her with their mouths hanging open.

The seconds ticked by and Julie watched closely as her friend’s expression moved from shock to realization, then a murderous look clouded over and Julie waited to get yelled at for betraying the one person she loved most in the world.

“That … arrogant, selfish, know-it-all, big-haired son of a bitch!” Heidi screamed, her hands clenching as her claws slid from her fingertips. “I’ll kill him!”

Now it was Julie’s turn to stand there in shock, but lucky for them all, Heidi’s mates recovered quickly as they both grabbed her before she could yank the bedroom door open and go find her big brother.

“So … you don’t hate me?” Julie’s words were quiet, but they stopped Heidi in her tracks like she’d used a bullhorn. “For not telling you all these years?”

“Oh, babe.” Heidi pulled her in for a big, lion-sized hug, and for once, Julie didn’t struggle. She just took the comfort her friend offered. “I don’t hate you. I wish you had told me, though. I can’t imagine how awful this must have been, going through it all alone. But don’t worry, we’ll fix it.”

Julie sighed. “I don’t need you to fix anything, Heidi. There’s nothing left between me and your brother. He made his choice, and I made peace with that years ago.”

Liar. The worst thing that cat-bastard ever did was make me have to lie to my best friend, and now he’s doing it all over again.

From the look on Heidi’s face, she suspected Julie wasn’t being honest, but she was thankful Mason interrupted.

“Well,” he announced, looking at his phone. “I think the first thing we should do is get both of you out of here and away from that asshole lion. My assistant just texted the house is ready. Let’s go.”

“Good plan,” Julie agreed and walked to the exit, ready to get away from the slight scent of Hector that was lingering in the hallway.

When the room went silent, she looked behind her.

“We’re not climbing out the damned window.” Wade rolled his eyes at her.

Tigers. So danged bossy.

Author Info:

Sarah Marsh was born in British Columbia, she’s only recently began her writing career finding it the perfect outlet for taking the edge off a nine to five job. She’s a science fiction and romance junkie and when her imagination started to take the characters she’d read about even further in their adventures she decided to try writing something of her own.

Her biggest weaknesses are animals of any kind … she even loves the ones that wake you up at four in the morning because they can almost see the bottom of their food dish.

When it comes to life in general she’s a big believer that laughter is the best medicine and that there’s no such thing as too much love, which is why she’s such a sucker for a happy ending.

#FlashbackFriday – Memories of Us #NewAdult #SecondChanceRomance

At least once in a lifetime, don’t we all deserve a second chance?

Good morning, my ravishing readers. Happy Friday!
Today I’m sharing a snippet from Memories of Us. It’s actually the perfect book to share for Flashback Friday. The scenes in this story flip back and forth, from the present to the past. I hope you enjoy the excerpt. It’s a memory from Call’s teenage years—Karis really puts him in his place! You go, girl!

In the past she was wild and promiscuous — In the present, she could steal his heart…

The Blurb:

Call Barstow spent the better part of his teenage years fighting off the sexual advances of Karis Hirt. Gorgeous, wild, promiscuous, and his best friend, Trey’s little sister, to boot. This in the teenage boy vernacular is referred to as pure unadulterated hell!

Determined to keep his friends from his sister, Trey swears all his buddies to a hands-off-the-sister pact, which Call takes very seriously. Call’s pledge is only made more torturous when the sensual little vixen, Karis, is determined to make him break his vow. But his constant rejection only drives her to rebel, leaving her reputation in tatters.

Years later, Karis resurfaces in Call’s life—a subdued version of the wild child he remembers. Suddenly the pact doesn’t seem important anymore, nor does her spotty reputation. As Call begins to reconcile the past-and-present Karis, he is inundated with memories of her and soon finds himself head over heels with the girl who consumed his youth.

Can Call not only forget but overlook her shadowed sexual history for a bright new future? Or will Karis’ wild past only lead to their eventual ruin?

Flashback Friday Teaser :   * * * Warning for language * * *

“You’re like an arsehole magnet, Karis,” I snapped. “You know that? You attract the worst guys.”

“Well, maybe I wouldn’t go out with guys like him if the one I was really interested in would give me the time of day,” Karis retorted.

I looked away, unable to hold her stare. Everyone knew she had a crush on me. “Well, just because no one else in this group has any morals doesn’t mean I don’t. It’s too bad you don’t respect yourself as much as I do.”

She spun around in a cascade of long blonde hair. “Don’t believe all the hype, pretty boy.” She walked back to within inches of me, brazen little bitch that she was. But I stood my ground and stared back at her, with what I hoped was a cold, disinterested expression.

“Besides, you’re not so different,” she said. “You might not touch, but you look at me just the way the rest of them do. I’m gonna walk outta here and your baby blues are going to go straight to my ass and you’ll admire the cut of my bikini bottoms.” She wiggled her hips and I fought the overwhelming urge to look at the colorful triangle between her legs. “I’ll even put a little extra wiggle on, just for you, Call. And by the time I reach the diving board, you’ll be sporting a full-fledged hard-on, baby, compliments of yours truly, the asshole magnet. And as you stand here fuming and berating yourself that I can make your little Johnson tug like that in the first place, you ponder, what that makes you.”

She puckered up and blew me a kiss, then flounced outside. As promised, she worked that sweet, toned little backside all the way to the diving-board. She strode to the end of it and pointed right at me, where I stood at the door watching, like an idiot. Like a fuckin’ train wreck, I couldn’t tear my attention away. Then she dove into the pool with a dive that was Olympic swimmer worthy. As I turned away, I shoved my hand into my loose-fitting shorts and fisted the traitorous aforementioned hard-on.

I hope you enjoyed the extract. Karis is feisty, don’t ya think? Now, I have to share one of my all-time favorite reviews for this book with you. It’s one of those author beware moments. When a reviewer starts off with “I read reviews about it and they weren’t raving to say the least. But I thought, it’s about 100 pages surely I can make it with some brain cells still in good condition.” OUCH! As a writer, you tend to read write-ups like this, with only one eye open. LOL Needless to say, I couldn’t get a real read on whether the reviewer liked the book or not. It’s one of those really up and down critiques, they give some praise, then in the next sentence take it away. LOL. But I truly appreciated the honest feedback. And in the end, I think it’s actually a good review. Here it is in it’s entirety:

This little book fell into my hands more or less by accident. I read reviews about it and they weren’t raving to say the least. But I thought, it’s about 100 pages surely I can make it with some brain cells still in good condition. So, my expectations were low. However, this book surprised me big time. I related to Kare. The story overall is mushy but it touched me on a personal level hence the ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Truth be told, it was a relief to read that story but at the same time I wasn’t very comfortable with my own personal trip down memory lane. If a book can evoke such strong emotions, even unwanted, then it deserves a good rating. I’ll stick to Paranormal. Safer.

Thanks for stopping by, folks, and thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings. Have an awesome weekend. And Happy Reading. ~ H K

The early evening sun glowed in the sky. Birds still sang. The breeze caressed his face, gentle and warm. Only white wisps of cloud trailed across the sky. It was an evening meant to walk hand in hand with a lover.

Chris sighed and drank some of his whisky. Since his boyfriend left him nearly a year ago, he hadn’t met anyone who stirred his heart. If there were any gay guys at the gathering, he’d yet to identify them. Since he was the only gay man among his friendship group, Chris expected to be the only person who hadn’t hooked up with someone by the time the bride and groom met at the altar. He smiled to himself recalling a work colleague’s words about wedding festivities. “That’s what usually happens isn’t it … you sleep with someone out of sheer envy for the “glowing with love” bride and groom?” Chris had laughed when the guy put air commas around the words “glowing with love.” “Some might. I might not,” but in his heart he dearly wished for a gentle, handsome man to love. Chris was lonelier than he admitted to himself or anyone else.

Four days of games, parties, and outings stretched ahead of him. Chris forced a more positive mood. This is a beautiful estate. I should explore. Phil’s parents owned the huge old house on a wealth of gardens. Ben, Phil’s dad, ran his events planning business from there and often one or two of the large rooms were used for conferences. Presently, the estate was closed for two weeks as the families and friends assembled to celebrate Phil’s wedding.

He peeled the label that named him from his jacket lapel, and stuffed it into his pocket. Then left his half-empty glass on a bench beside a row of rose bushes, heavy with large pink blooms, and wandered off down the path that wound around the house. The hem of his jacket trailed along two of the flowers and the perfume shed by the roses followed him.

The path forked at a corner of the house, and Chris took the one that led into an archway of trees. The path beneath his feet changed. Some of the paving stones held large cracks where tiny white daisies grew among dark moss. Chris bent and picked one—so small, yet so perfect. He put it into the buttonhole on his collar. The tree branches met at their canopy and only a few slanting rays of sun penetrated. Some scented climbing flowers wove through the trees, twining around their trunks. Chris smiled, enjoying the fragrant enclosure. Peace dropped over him as he walked.

At the end of the path, he turned at a fork that led toward the house again. Chris considered striking out across the lawn for a look at what appeared to be a small round pond, but the evening sun had disappeared behind a bank of clouds. He glanced upward at the sky. A few large orbs of rain splattered on his face. Funny, only minutes ago it didn’t look like rain at all.

He walked more rapidly in the direction of the house as the sky became overcast. On this side of the building, he could see a long line of windows, two of which from that angle, seemed to be French doors, and they were flung open. As Chris neared them, strains of music floated in the descending twilight. Fairy lights glittered, strung across the tops of the doors, and as the rain fell, the drops reflected their silvery twinkle.

By the time Chris reached the entrance, dark stars of raindrops patterned his dove-gray suit jacket and dampened his face. Chris dashed into the room accessible from the large glass doors and froze. He’d expected this to be another way into the living room he’d left earlier, especially with the lure of music guiding him, but a totally different and smaller room lay before him, and in the middle of the parquet, a man danced a kind of waltz, alone, clutching a rectangular cushion to his chest.

#FlashbackFriday – Have Teasers — Will travel ;)

How goes the New Year, folks?

Pretty quiet around my homestead, so far. So, to liven things up, I’ve posted two very different excerpts over on the other blogs for Flashback Friday.  On Breaking Genre, find the first chapter from epic historical romance, The Devil Take You. And over on the original Pick a Genre Already, I’m sharing an adult excerpt from, erotic, Romance on the Go®, Next Weekend.

Be forewarned, The Devil Take You, teaser is PG, but the Next Weekend extract is +18, for content and language.

Have a great weekend!  Happy New Year!

New Release – Killian’s Hope [Alpha Protectors, 4] by Elyzabeth M. VaLey #PNR

Killian’s Hope-complete800x1200

Hope is a precious thing.

Hope is all Alpha Protector Killian has. Hope for more time with his mate. Hope for a better future in which they can be together freely. When they’re both assigned to the same undercover mission in Spain, Killian seizes the opportunity as a chance to spend more time with Prudence.

Unfortunately, she doesn’t share his point of view, but hope is the last thing he’ll lose.

It’s not greed if it’s for the greater good.

Prudence loves Killian above all else, but her mission in life is to serve the Virtues and keep the balance between good and evil. Being appointed leader of the Spell Casters in the dangerous mission to defeat the Sin Lords is her chance to prove to her superiors that she can be the next High Priestess.

The only problem is resisting Killian.

With years of pent up love and frustration tugging at them, will they be able to avoid succumbing to their forbidden mating? And what will happen when the evil which they were sent to destroy threatens to tear them apart forever?

Excerpt:

The last rays of sunlight filtered through the stained-glass windows, creating a pattern of dancing colors on the floors and walls. It would have been a spectacle worth watching if she wasn’t so bent on seeing Killian. She was glad they weren’t allowed to be in the same room together, because otherwise, she didn’t know if she would be capable of not throwing herself into his arms. Prudence reached the appointed room. It was not much larger than the one on the other side of the wall. With an impatient flick of her wrist, she brought the ancient scripts on the walls alive with light. The protection spells glowed brightly for a few seconds then began to fade, remaining dim like the last licking flames of dying firewood. Sitting on the padded stool in front of the window, Pru inhaled deeply. She bit her lip to keep from gasping. Surely, she couldn’t smell him in here. Surely, it was only her mind playing tricks on her, recalling his scent from previous encounters. She dropped her gaze to her hands, staring at her quivering fingers which matched the erratic thumping of her heart. She had to control herself. Recall their true reason for being here.

Killian cleared his throat loudly, shattering her thoughts. There was no point in delaying this any longer. Her pain would not ease so she’d just have to bury it. As she reached for the window’s knob, she swore she heard Killian’s labored exhale, as if he too were releasing something pent-up inside him. Was it possible he also felt the same pain as her? Selfish thoughts tried to surface but she beat them back. It was time to focus. Bracing herself, she slid open the window dividing them and any pretense of focus was nearly lost. Eyes blue like the ocean on a clear morning with dark irises and long blond lashes locked with hers. Her heart danced in her chest and her cheeks heated. Every fiber in her body woke up, alert to the presence of the man she loved.

She dug her fingernails into her knees. Dear Gods, she wanted to touch him. Her gaze dropped to his lips which she could see through the fine mesh. Kiss him. Feel his warm mouth against her, breathing life into her. She looked up again and realized he did the same, taking her in like some kind of starved animal. Tears stung the back of her eyes and she averted her gaze. She had to end this quickly, before their emotions got out of hand. She glanced at the ring on her left hand. Silver with a white stone, it represented the order of Spell Casters. She had to keep her mission in mind.

“Why are you here, Killian?”

Silence stretched between them and she wondered if he had heard her.

“Killian?”

“You can’t keep the sweetness out of my name even when you try.”

Her gaze flew to his and she saw the familiar spark in his eyes. The one which lit her up inside and out and made the corner of her lips twitch. Daredevil. She clasped her hands together, pressing the pad of her thumb against the ring. Remember.

“Why are you here?” she asked drily, proud that at least her voice didn’t tremble.

“You know why.”

“I don’t.”

“You requested me.”

“You have received the documents.”

“And your note.”

“You would have tried to see me and gotten yourself into trouble otherwise.”

“So you decided to make it easier for me by leaving a love-locked message.”

She could hear his grin. He was holding back a chuckle. Damn man. She pursed her lips. If she smiled, she’d be opening a window of opportunity, giving them both hope when there was none.

“Yes. And—” She paused. Here it went. “I just wanted to make it clear that this is strictly business.”

“Yet, you requested me for the mission.”

“What?” she squealed.

“Aslan told me.”

“That’s not how it happened. It has nothing to do with us. I would have requested another but—”

“But, Pru?”

She didn’t reply. Her head pounded as she tried to find a way to get out of the mess she had created. She could almost taste the savory sweetness of hope, stretching between them like an invisible lasso binding them together.

“Killian, you know we can’t be together,” she whispered at length.

“I know, but that’s not what I’m asking. Not today.” His tone was gentle, their roles reversed. One moment, she’d had the upper hand, had been dealing the cards, the next, he’d plucked them out of her hand.

“I simply want to know: why did you request me? Why, Pru?”

The invitation to kiss lured Jon in a second. The delicious feel of his lover’s lips mingled with the emotion that swished in his stomach. He clung to Saxon, sharing heated kiss after kiss until his heart raced. He drew away trying to cool the moment.

Saxon traced a finger along Jon’s cheek to his jaw. It left delectable sensation in its wake.

Jon took a deep breath. He returned to sitting in the shelter of Saxon’s arm and stared at the screen where the movie played on.

Moments passed before Saxon spoke softly.

“I know you go home Saturday after work, but can I see you tomorrow night? Will you come to the beach house? I know it’s clingy, maybe even surprising, but I feel like I don’t want to let you out of my sight.”

The sentiment sent a wave of warmth into Jon’s heart. If only things were different, we’d fall in love. I already feel safe with him. I want to love him and have him love me. He won’t love a felon. Jon sighed.

Saxon must have mistaken the sigh for a refusal. “You probably have plans, of course.”

Jon hurried to correct the idea. “No. I’d love to see you, Saxon.”

“Where’s your phone? I’ll put my address and both my numbers in your contacts.”

Jon couldn’t help smiling. He likes me a lot, for sure. He stood and went to his jacket. He brought his smartphone back to the couch and sat beside Saxon. “Here you go.”

Saxon bent his head to key in the information.

Just watching him gave Jon a soft glow of affection for the man.

In a rush of need, Aiden pushed his hands inside Santiago’s t-shirt and moaned low as his palms contacted a hard, muscled chest. He ran his hands around Santiago’s body. The feel of Santiago’s skin beneath his fingertips drove him on. Aiden rammed his hips onto Santiago’s lower body, and the hard column of his erection met the shape of Santiago’s. Aiden murmured, pulling Santiago’s t-shirt up to take it off.

Santiago dragged it off before he helped Aiden take off his t-shirt. He clasped Aiden close with a soft, “Uh, this feels so good.”

Skin to skin and lips on lips, the resulting pleasure so intense it left him gasping, Aiden fought to breathe. The gentle breeze caressed his back, and slowly he remembered they stood on Santiago’s balcony. He held his lover’s shoulders and steered him into the living room, hardly breaking their kiss.

Santiago smiled onto his lips. He opened the jeans Aiden wore. “Now we’re out of public view, let’s get these off you.” He pushed them down Aiden’s thighs.

The brush of Santiago’s fingertips forced a groan from him. He took a step away and dragged off the jeans and boxers he wore, dropping them where he stood. His cock sprang free, thick and hard. Santiago’s gasp brought his head up. He moved rapidly to his lover. “You must have seen me naked yesterday but…”

Santiago stole the words from his mouth with a kiss as he grasped Aiden’s dick. He slid his fist along. “But not this, not…”

Aiden whispered onto Santiago’s mouth. “Not my cock huge, aching, and waiting for your touch.” He dragged the zipper of his lover’s chinos down, then grabbed the waistband, pulling them and Santiago’s underwear over his hard ass to halfway down his muscled thighs. He broke contact with Santiago’s lips and looked down to see his lover’s dick. A smile hovered as he took in the sight of Santiago’s erection, glistening at the slit with pre-cum.

“You’re so hot.” He swept his hands over Santiago’s skin in wide circles, drifted his fingertips along his lover’s flat stomach, and kissed him.

Santiago took Aiden’s hands from his body. “I need these clothes off.”

Aiden purposely watched Santiago take off his chinos, soaking up the delicious sight of his ass as he bent and the way his cock bobbed against his hard stomach. As soon as his lover’s pants hit the floor, Aiden crushed him close.

BLURB

In the future, be careful who you trust.

Nathaniel Stockton and Grover Silas Ranger are faced with the ultimate test to their relationship when the Project Mars Lottery comes to town. Nate wins a chance to have his dreams come true: live and work on the red planet with his love. His husband Ranger doesn’t see the point of going from one bad place to another. But an evil organization called Sector has a completely different idea for the couple.

Kidnapped, experimented on, impregnated, and sent to Mars, Nate realizes too late he trusted the wrong people.

Ranger fights to find a way to Nate. Will he make it to his love before their dreams and lives are irrevocably broken by distance, a pregnancy, and the corrupt agency?

EXCERPT

The phone rang, dragging Nate from his thoughts.

“I’m gonna put it on screen,” Ranger called out from the kitchen.

“Sure.”

The wall flashed to life, and a dark-haired man with dark eyes, appeared. The stranger reminded Nate of the doctor at the lottery exams—lab coat, stethoscope, well-groomed—but this man was older and seemed to have an edge to him.

“Hey,” Nate greeted. “What can I do for you?”

“Am I speaking with Nathaniel Curtis Stockton?”

“Yeah.” Nate took a swig of his drink.

“Wonderful.” The man smiled but the expression didn’t reach his eyes. “I am Doctor Rafael Trask. I am one of the lead scientists in a series of special clinical studies being performed. I understand you failed the medical section of the lottery exams?”

“Yeah.” The guy’s voice sounded cool … exact. Combined with the discord of his face, Nate sensed an air of danger surrounding the man. Creeped out, Nate was hesitant to say too much.

“Well, first off, let me say, we are not associated with the lottery. But should you participate in our studies you may have another chance at traveling to and settling on Mars. We also offer outstanding compensation. Despite whether you are or are not picked for travel, you will pretty much be set for life.”

Ranger strolled into the room and sat beside Nate, twirling the comm-wand between his fingers. “What are these studies?”

The man’s eyes narrowed. “Who are you?”

“His husband,” Ranger answered. “Whatever he’s to be involved in, wherever he’s going, I’ll be at his side. What’s all this about?”

Doctor Trask leaned back in his chair and steepled his fingers together. He looked down his nose at the camera on his comm device, appearing to contemplate what Ranger had said and giving Ranger a once-over. The doctor reminded Nate of a vulture.

“Okay,” Trask said. “Like I was about to mention to Mister Stockton, we are trying to find cures for people who did not pass the medical aspects of the lottery exams due to their diseases. We are also looking into the sterility epidemic and chromosomal changes in the female population.”

“Could you hold a moment?” Nate asked, grabbing the wand from Ranger and muting the call. He pointed the wand at the screen. “Do you think this is legit?”

“Yeah. It could be.”

“It might be the answer to our Mars problem.” Nate smiled, feeling a glimmer of warm hope spring up within him again.

“Perhaps. Should we see what’s what with it?”

Nate unmuted the call. “What if we say we’re interested?”

The doctor lifted a corner of his mouth. “I will digitize a package of information to you, and then we will be in touch with further instructions.”

“Well,” Ranger said, “count us interested.”

“Wonderful,” the doctor drawled.
