Will turned to address the men again, but did not release her from his grip. “Have a good look at this beauty, gents.”

As they gawked at her, she stood straight and proud as though daring someone to try and claim her, returning their gazes with scathing, cold eyes, her fair lips pressed into a tight line. After one quick scan of crowd before her, she shot an icy glare at Will, who let go of her and backed off.

Colin chuckled. Could this petite thing be the reason for the bruise on Will’s cheek? She radiated anger, was so alive with it that it cast off her like the heat of a flame.

Will strolled to one corner of the platform as though nothing dramatic had just occurred. “Now, where shall we start the bidding?”

“What skills does she have?” asked one of the men. thickbookleft_1344x1566.png

“Yeah, can she work a terminal?” asked another.

“A bit scrawny for farm work. Looks like the most she’d be able to do is keep the house clean,” someone else commented. That was followed by snickering from the cluster of men around him.

The woman tossed her head and the dark strands of her hair gleamed onyx in the light of the double suns. “I do not do menial labor.”

She reminded Colin of warrior princesses in tales. And it was obvious to him that she was unused to being handled the way she was right now.

The trader wagged his eyebrows and strolled to the other side of the platform. “Who cares what skills she has? Come now. Let’s start the bidding. With a woman of this quality, why would you ever want her to leave the bedroom?”

The deep multi-toned chuckle of men followed his statement. But Colin wasn’t among them. Instead, he frowned, and started making his way forward to end the show.

“Who will give me twenty credits?” the trader shouted. “Twenty credits for the loveliest creature you’ve ever seen.”

The woman stood with her head held high, eyes distant, stance hard as the rock that formed the distant red mountains of Garrulus Four.

The men shuffled and murmured amongst themselves. Given the kind of lives they led, beauty was a luxury far outweighed by the many other qualities they needed in a wife. This lot of men were used to leading quiet lives, and they wanted women who did the same or went along with it at least. The woman on the platform would not fit in with this plan. Even if one of them could afford her, Colin doubted they’d be able to handle her.

Will’s eyebrows were high with shock. “Nobody?” He stopped his movement on the platform and pulled his head back in an exaggerated way, making his potbelly poke forward from the coat he wore. “No one will pay twenty credits for this gorgeous creature? That’s a bargain for someone like her.”

Colin saw one corner of the woman’s mouth quirk upward in satisfaction, and he grinned again. Obviously, she felt like she was winning so far, but what would be the consequences? She’d already stated she wouldn’t work, and she’d failed to declare any skills. If all she had to trade was beauty, she was on the wrong planet.

“Eighteen credits then. Who will pay eighteen?” Will called, an edge of desperation in his voice now. “You’ve all become shy suddenly. Suffering from performance anxiety, perhaps? Who wouldn’t be with her around, eh?” He chortled and leered at the woman.

Colin could see the men glancing at each other. Who would be crazy enough to take on the beautiful spitfire? That’s what it came down to, their masculinity. Clearly they found themselves lacking, because none of them were brave enough to bid.

As the silence stretched on, a warm wind whooshed through, audible in the vacuum of stillness. It was only then that the woman’s stance thawed. Her shoulders rounded, and worry transformed her eyes from their sparkling glare to the round-eyed, lost look of an innocent. The pink lips softened and parted revealing surprise at the group’s rejection, and Colin’s heart went out to her.

“Eighteen credits!” His hand shot up in the air before he even realized that the words had left his lips.

EXCERPT

“Wake the fuck up! Come on, Ray, wake up.”

Jared gripped Ray’s upper arms and shook him again. No response. Nobody sleeps that soundly. For Christ’s sake, he looked catatonic, like the woman in The Fall of the House of Usher, who’s pronounced dead and then buried alive. Now Jared was scared. He considered throwing cold water on him, maybe calling for an ambulance. He shook Ray again.

Slowly, Ray opened his right eye. An explosion in Afghanistan took his left eye years ago.

“Jared?” Ray mumbled.

“Yeah, Jared. Were you expecting someone else?”

Ray looked around the room. He seemed confused.

“Snap out of it, man. I couldn’t wake you.”

“I’m awake. I’m awake.” Ray stretched. He looked like he wanted to go back to sleep.”

“You scared the hell out of me.”

“Sorry. I must have been dreaming.”

“Must have been some dream. There’s a wet spot on the bed.”

Ray checked the sheets. He looked surprised. “Sorry.”

“Forget it, Sexy.” Jared climbed into bed with him. “Tell me all the dirty details. I want to get off too.”

“You know I never remember my dreams.” Ray rolled out of bed. “I better change the sheets.”

Jared made a grab for him. “Later.”

Ray evaded him. “Look at the time, Jared.”

“You used to call me Baby?” Jared spoke more harshly than he intended.

“Fuck the sheets, and the time. We own the company. Let’s go in late. Better yet, let’s take the day off.”

“We can’t afford to close shop, even for one day. Too many P.I.’s in Jersey. The completion is killing us. ”

“We’re the new guys in town. All we need is a big profile case and the clients will be knocking our door down.”

“I hope so.” Ray headed toward the bathroom. “I’m gonna shower.”

“Come back, I’ll give you a tongue bath instead.”

The bathroom door slammed behind Ray. Worried, Jared lay back with his arms under his head. Ray never wanted to fuck anymore. He always had an excuse. I’m too tired. It’s late. I’m drunk. I have a headache.

The sex had been dwindling for months. Six months to be exact. Ever since Remus showed up and screwed up their lives. If he was just another man Jared could handle the competition, but Remus was larger than life, a superhero who’d come from Ray’s past to claim him.

Excerpt

“So why do I feel this way?” Her eyelids fluttered as her gaze settled on his face.
“You don’t want it?” He dropped his hands, crossed his trembling arms over his chest. God, what was he doing? His hunger had never gotten the best of him.
She moved, slow and cautious, sweeping her fingertips across his clenched jaw. “I shouldn’t.”
He shook his head and caught her hand, bringing it to his mouth, pressing a kiss to her knuckles. When he exhaled against her delicate skin, she shivered and keened his name.
“I’m so cold.” She shivered again and pulled her hand free to rub her arms. “Cold to the bone.”
The sweetest hint of female arousal clung to the air, teasing his senses. Inside, he rioted. His features shifted, stinging as the bones aligned into his predatory state. He fought against his inborn nature while the line between humanity and the animalistic creature in his soul vanished.
He wanted her. Craved her.
When his eyes turned, his field of vision expanding, he saw her heat signals, watched the minute changes of her pulse. She swallowed reflexively, as if nervous. Her lips parted, and little breaths tore from her chest. If he didn’t take her in his arms and touch her, warm her, taste her, he was going to lose his freaking mind.
He lifted his arms, hands up and forced himself to speak, “Let me help you then.”
She had ten seconds to march out of there and put distance between them. It was all he could manage. If she stood there any longer, he’d shove his humanity into a dark corner of his soul, muzzle the bastard and take what he wanted.
Five seconds.
Three.
She looked past his shoulder and shook her head.
One.
“Please.” When she reached for him, he roared and pushed her back against the wall. His mouth crashed onto hers, tongue spearing into her mouth. He kissed her with wild abandon, pressing her to open further, to surrender to his invasion.
Her tongue met his, dueled and touched. His thoughts splintered. Desire rammed into him, and he caught both sides of her face, angling her head to nibble on her lips.
Insistent hands traveled up his chest, shaping his muscles. She skated her fingers over his pecs and higher still to his shoulder. When her palm curved at the nape of his neck and tugged, he closed his eyes and let her pull him down to her throat.
He was lost, utterly and completely gone. With one fang pressed against the warm flesh, he pushed until it gave but withdrew immediately. He waited for the blood to drip from the puncture and followed the stream across the ridge of her collarbone and under the loose collar of her blouse. A little pool of her blood coalesced in the valley of her breasts just waiting for him to savor each heated droplet.
When she pulled the blouse down, exposing her creamy skin and the lacy bra, heat surged low between his legs. A pounding throb drew the skin tight.
“Drink,” she commanded in a rough pitch.

With great passion comes great responsibility…

Lucy Tullet’s entire world has imploded, thanks to the two soft pink lines staring back at her. As a professional party-girl, she never considered settling down and having kids. Until she meets the blood wolf—a renowned Viking vampire hunter with a mysterious past—and spends the night in his arms. Now, thanks to him, everything has changed. “Lucy,” he repeated as he studied my face. “A lovely name for a lovely woman.”I cleared my throat and stepped back, putting space between us. “Are you here as a bachelor then?”Bemusement tugged on his mouth. “I’m flattered. But no.”

“So, if you aren’t here as a bachelor, and you’re not part of the European pack…” I let my sentence dangle with the hope that he’d answer my unspoken question. What other reason could there be for his presence? Unless…understanding dawned. “Are you here to bid on one of the bachelors?”

Surprise widened his dark eyes, and he choked back a laugh. “Uh, no. While I’m sure they’re fine men, they’re not the one I’m interested in.”

Heat spread through my cheeks.

“Um. We’ll just…be elsewhere,” Bailey said. “Like, over there. Yeah, over there works.”

“What?” Evelyn asked.

“Come on, dummy.” Bailey grabbed Evelyn’s arm and wrenched her toward the bar.

The blush spread down the back of my neck. Within five minutes, the entire pack would hear about this. Those two women were the absolute worse sort. Gossip was like air to them.

“So.” I shot him another look, my tongue suddenly heavy in my mouth.

This was ridiculous. I wasn’t the sort who gummed up in front of a man. I was the sort who took initiative, who dragged them out onto the dance floor for a good time, who used them, then ditched them the next morning. Yet, here I stood, nervously fiddling with my glass, my mouth drier than the desert. All because Mr. Europe was hotter than hell itself.

I cleared my throat and tried again. “What are you here for then?”

His brows furrowed. “I came to see someone. But they didn’t show.”

A woman someone? I wanted to ask. Except, the words died in my throat. “And you’re really not part of the European pack?”

“No.” He chuckled, the expression lighting up his face. I loved the sound of it, deep but gentle, as though he laughed a lot. “In fact, I only arrived in America this afternoon.”

My lips parted. “Wow. You even managed to score a sweet tux, too. Impressive.”

He bowed his head. “I aim to please.”

“Did you come to America to meet this friend of yours?”

“I did. Guess that won’t be happening tonight, though.”

“And this friend…” Just ask! “A female friend?”

His smile broadened, flashing a pair of dimples. “No. Just an old friend. But he’s not here, and you are. So, I call that a win.”

I ducked my head, the bunnies in my stomach launching into full-blown butterflies. Damn it, stop playing coy! Reagan often called me a man-eater. Time to put up or shut up.

“Well then.” I handed my empty glass to the next server who strode by and grabbed two fresh drinks, handing him one. “If you’re not from the European pack, then I offer you my sincerest apology for the way I spoke to you earlier.”

“That so?” His mouth ticked upward. “I’m honored. I get the impression you don’t apologize often.”

“I’m not often wrong,” I said with a playful wink.

“Ah, beauty and brains, then?” Before I could respond, he plowed onward. “I take it you’re here to bid on one of these fine gentlemen tonight?”

“Yup.” Not that I wanted to anymore. The only devilishly handsome werewolf I wanted to play with was the one standing in front of me. “You sure you’re not supposed to be up there?”

“Do you want me to be?”

Most definitely. I’d bid every last cent on him. Problem was, from the many hungry glances sliding his way, I wasn’t the only one interested. And I wasn’t known for sharing. After a moment’s consideration, I shook my head. “No, you don’t belong up there.”

He clutched at his chest. “You wound me, madam!”

“It’s for your protection, and everyone else’s too. I wouldn’t want to have to kill everyone who bid on you just to get what I want.”

He stepped closer, his scent overwhelming my senses. “I’m intrigued. What is it you want?”

“You tell me,” I murmured, my voice taking on a husky note.

His fingers brushed against mine, teasing, taunting…playing the game. I gave a slow blink and lifted my gaze to his, my mouth curling into a sensuous smile.

“I know what I want,” he said.

“Do tell.”

Without warning, he cupped the back of my head and brushed his lips against mine. Slowly at first, tasting what I had to offer. Teasing me with the promise of something more. I’d expected him to ravish my mouth, but instead, he took the time to seduce me. Heat spread through my body, and my damn knees buckled. His touch feathered against my bare back, eliciting a shiver unlike anything I’d ever experienced. My whole body attuned to his, and he’d done little more than offer a chaste brush of our lips.

We parted, my chest heaving beneath my dress. His gaze dipped to my plunging neckline, his eyes sparkling at the sight of my flushed skin.

“I have a room upstairs,” he rasped.

Hallelujah. Because we sure as hell wouldn’t make it back to my place.

“Only if you’re interested.”

I laughed. “You damn well know I’m interested.”

“Now?”

Screw the auction. Gabriel had sent me to smooth over the press, and to donate money to a good cause. Neither of which I’d done. But I’d already won the night as far as I was concerned, without spending a single cent. I could easily donate the money without bidding.

I licked my lips, excitement dancing in my stomach. “Now,” I murmured. “Right fucking now.”

He flashed me a grin. “A woman after my own heart.”

Touch of Ice Teaser

Book Excerpt

Snow fell with an unrelenting fury, blanketing the early evening with the smell of things cold and pure. Aldric watched as the air filled with the large snowflakes, lost in his thoughts.
Under his palm, Rhyl’s scales shivered with withheld excitement. The beast wanted to take to the skies at least as much as Aldric did. Soaring in the middle of a snowstorm was the only luxury Aldric awarded himself, the only time he allowed his own personal pleasure to come before his responsibilities as High Lord of Katanie. As long as the flight lasted, there was only the sky, him, Rhyl, and the connection between man and dragon that ran deeper than a cellular level.
Only he always had to come back.
The sound of a door opening made him turn and he stifled a growl of annoyance at the sight of Dalgo. His old friend’s face was set in familiar grim lines, and he walked briskly toward Rhyl and himself. Aldric was tempted to ignore his friend’s presence and fly away on his dragon, but as his gaze locked with Dalgo’s silver eyes, eyes he shared with every Draekon, something in them made him stay. It looked like it could be important enough to postpone his flight.
“Don’t tell me we had another disturbance on the northern border? I thought those thieves had been properly scared away.”
“What I have to tell you has nothing to do with some low-life human thieves.” Dalgo stopped walking and stared straight at Aldric. He never bothered with the proper greetings when they were alone. “But before I tell you, you have to promise to listen to everything I have to say before you make your decision.”
“What is it, then?” Aldric turned to face the large opening in the mountainside that was the dragon’s landing and departing strip. The open sky called to him, and his mood worsened at the knowledge he wouldn’t get to enjoy the freedom of the flight. When Dalgo didn’t answer, he turned back to stare at his friend. Dalgo’s eyes were determined but his mouth was closed. He seemed to be at a loss for words, something that never happened to Aldric’s usually loquacious captain of the guards.
Dalgo took a deep breath, then squared his shoulders.
“She came forward this afternoon at the Human Liaison Office in Helbon.”
“Who?” Aldric frowned, not bothering to hide his irritation. What woman could be worth wasting a perfect snowstorm like this?
“Her. Your match.”
Comprehension dawned and Aldric suddenly wished there were chairs to sit on near the landing strips. A flash of a young woman, laughing and flipping long, dark hair came to his mind. He was surprised at how vivid his memory was, how well he remembered her face. Those large, dark velvet brown eyes, those full lips stretched in an easy smile, that luscious body with a woman’s full curves. He remembered everything about her.
“Endora.” Aldric tasted her name on his lips. He hadn’t allowed himself to speak that name in a decade. “She accepted the offer?”
